Lace in Translation

Lace is the inspiration for an exhibition at The Design Center at Philadelphia University featuring the work of Tord Boontje, Demakersvan and Cal Lane. Lace in Translation features intricate installations that are contemporary updates on an ancient craft. Demakersvan creates a lacy chain link fence, shown above; Lane welds an oil tank into a display of filigree and urns a lacy scroll into a lawn; Boontje makes a sofa out of a spider web. We are reminded that lace doesn't have to be related to textiles anymore.
