Lawn Friends by Chris Schiavo
This dog's figured out that the fun's to be had at a simple backyard gathering of loyal friends who aren't leaving any time soon. The photograph by Chris Schiavo is among a varied selection of multimedia works compiled in Resurgence, a group show by ArtHaus gallery artists. Also included are brazen papier-mâché kewpie dolls by Adam Kurtzman and a look into the future from Kenney Mencher.
Spitfire by Benjamin Anderson
Everything is submerged in cool, blue ripples in Just Add Water, an upcoming exhibition of oils by Benjamin Anderson. The not-so-squeaky clean themes of beauty, war and materialism are central to this lush array of work; in fact, they are almost magnified. Not only does Just Add Water focus visually on H2O, but a percentage of each sale goes towards Nika Water, an organization that uses the profits from selling bottled water to provide water where it is needed.

Drifting" by Amy Casey
Amy Casey explains her paintings much better than we can: "For about the last eight years, I've been experiencing a sporadically recurring dream about the end of the world. Animals stampeding and buildings falling into dust around me, I wake up in a panic and with a heavy sense of inevitability. Although I'm not trying to recreate this dream in my work, I think that like my dream, my paintings reflect my view of the nervous state of affairs the world seems to be in. Inspired by natural and unnatural disasters, personal fiascos and the never-ending stream of bad news coming in from the media, the world inside my paintings has been turned (sometimes literally) upside down. The ground has crumbled beneath them and the sky is falling. In the wake of this, my created world tries to come up with coping plans. This lets me explore ideas of anxiety and vulnerability, community, and the illusions of safety. I am fascinated by the resilience of life. Every disaster is followed by rebirth, where we try to cobble together a plan b. out of what remains. My paintings celebrate this fascination and my love of the urban landscape and it's creatures."
Triangles and Quadrangles by Rafa Jenn
Based in Denver and Barcelona, Rafa Jenn allows us to see old favorites in a whole new light. Triangles and quadrangles make up a portrait of Darth Vader and Marilyn comes together via quarter circles, as does a map of the world. The subjects' identities have hardly been disguised enough for recognition to miss a beat before dawning, but Jenn's use of shape and colour does bring a smile to faces that have not yet been tampered with. Make sure you see the Mona Lisa.
